Henry - are you using liquid kelp in your daily drench feed? There are lots of plant growth factors in liquid kelp and there is no toxicity if you over do it. Only downside it that the stuff isn’t cheap. You can drench the nodes with a solution of liquid kelp (sort of like a foliar spray) to get them moving. If you have the patience you can use a spray bottle mixture but I just pour some of my daily feed mixture right over the nodes.

Do not put the vine to early in the dirth , wait until you can see 5 cm .

If the plant is growing strongly from the main vine then it's producing a lot of auxin which will slow the growth of the secondaries. Not much you can do about it other than be patient; the secondaries will come sooner or later.
