Do you have a soil analysis?? Each macronutrient N-P-K needs to be in balance with the others or you can get irregular growth. Generally speaking Nitrogen helps promote new green growth (plant base), phosphorus promotes rooting snd advanced structure growth and potassium (K) promotes fruit production. If one is much stronger than the others in ratio then plant will grow but focus on the function of your overloaded macronutrient. In your case maybe you have too much nitrogen in comparison to phosphorus as plant not pausing to root those nodes and send out more advanced growth. It’s just using up the excess nitrogen before slowing down and making a more structured plant. Yes eventually your nitrogen will get used or drained by watering and the plant will start producing secondaries. Mother Nature will course correct (as long as you aren’t adding nitrogen at this point). To know for sure a soil test would be extremely helpful. To override Mother Nature a little growth factor daily at each node might work like liquid kelp.

In my patch, lack of secondary vines is a sure sign of a nutrient deficiency caused by low PH. 6 will do that. Soil changes during the season. I like about 6.8 to start.

Alex Noel and I had a similar discussion this spring. You might want to hit him up.

You can do the same thing each year and get different results. Nature has cycles that are beyond our control. But control what you can...

Hi Zappa. I posted a diary of my soil test. Levels seem to be about where they were last year. Something is wrong though. I do agree
